About the role

The most important and rewarding aspect of your role will be the effective leadership of your team, made up of a Shift Supervisor, Team Leaders and a cleaning crew of 28 at the Havelock site. Through motivation, mentoring and support you’ll bring out the best in them and yourself, resulting in enhanced staff engagement and customer satisfaction.

This is a fixed night shift role (12am to 8am), leading the sanitation team to provide a hygienic factory by ensuring all cleaning tasks are planned and scheduled, that all necessary resources (people, equipment, consumables and chemicals) are available, and that best practice techniques are maintained. You will lead the changeover from production to sanitation, and from sanitation to production, and be the back-up to the Day and Night Shift Managers during leave absences. This is a hands-on leadership role, focusing on achieving targets related to Health and Safety, quality, compliance with national and international standards, and continuous improvement while developing a team environment that supports high performance.

Skills and Attributes

To succeed in this dynamic and fast paced environment, we seek:

  • Prior experience in production leadership / management roles within the food processing industry.
  • An understanding of food safety standards and hygiene requirements, ideally backed by experience in high-care, high-risk manual environments eg seafood, chicken or meat.
  • An empathetic, firm and focused leadership style. You like people, understands what motivates and drives them, and can inspire your staff to perform at their best – but you also have the experience to deal with any issues in a professional manner.
  • A strong health and safety focus.
