About the role

You will manage all logistics activities for the Timaru Branch including:

  • Managing the receipt and movement of incoming fish from the vessels (including from offsite locations around the South Island) to the processing facility.
  • Warehouse and inventory management within freezer and chilled storage facilities.
  • Transportation – managing the performance of both 3PL transport providers and company owned vehicles.
  • Champion the site traffic management plans.
  • Purchasing and inventory control of packaging, and release to Processing.
  • Take a national overview responsibility for Transportation with the objective of providing consistency across the business.
    • This will involve the development of national standards, policies and procedures, auditing Sanford and 3PL transport operations and training counterparts in transportation compliance and best practice.

Skills and Attributes

The successful applicant will…

  • Demonstrate solid leadership skills and the ability to develop a high performing team.
  • Ideally have experience working in larger organisations where logistics best practice has been a way of life.
  • Have a sound understanding of commercial transport operations and the ability to transfer this knowledge across the business.
  • Have a background from within the food processing sector. Experience working with chilled / frozen / perishables / seafood would be highly desirable.
  • Be an individual who challenges the status quo and is an able communicator, comfortable liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Be able to see the bigger picture and communicate the company vision and achieve buy-in from all parties. Be a great mentor and coach.
  • Have a hands-on approach, operational insight and analytical ability.
  • Be familiar with IT and H&S systems. Computer literate and familiar with the use of ERP / WMS systems.
