The opportunity

This privately owned New Zealand company is a leading supplier of products to building industry, servicing both retail and trade sectors. It has built a strong reputation for quality, product development, customer service and delivery.

To keep up with the businesses’ ongoing growth and development now requires a step change to their systems and on site expertise – which includes the introduction of an experienced S&OP professional capable of building robust business systems and processes to allow the company to keep up with current demands and meet its projected targets moving forward.

The role

Reporting to the CEO and part of the Senior Leadership Team, this role is both strategic and hands-on, providing leadership and expertise to improve supply chain outcomes:

  • Procurement: product sourcing and contract negotiation, KPI management and maintaining supplier relationships. Identify and validate alternative suppliers to ensure quality and security of supply.
  • Purchasing: leading and mentoring 1 report. 
  • Sales & Operational Planning: develop, implement, embed and sustain the S&OP processes that accurately reflect integrated sales, inventory and variable profit financial forecast plans. This will include the development of the demand planning process to improve forecast accuracy.

You will be the Supply Chain Continuous Improvement and S&OP Champion – a leader who has the experience, expertise and mana to inspire others along the journey of change.

Skills and experience

We can best describe our ideal candidate using terms such as “highly analytical”, “strategic thinker”, “collaborative negotiator”, and “credible leader and influencer”. To be more specific, we seek:

  • Demonstrated functional excellence in Supply Chain / S&OP / planning management within a dynamic business environment.
  • Advanced competency in supply planning / MRP/ ERP systems. Experience using Microsoft NV would be useful but not essential. Competence using Excel is a must.
  • Hands-on and commercially astute, you have a head for numbers and are competent in performing and interpreting statistical analysis.
  • You’re comfortable with both ‘big picture’ thinking and micro-detail depending on the task at hand.
  • Good communicator with a collaborative working style and the ability to develop strong business relationships.

The business is well established with a loyal and committed team thus a diplomatic approach to change management will be most effective. This is an integral role and offers the right candidate a real opportunity to make their mark.
