The role

We seek a talented Operations Manager to assume full operational control of the Havelock facility – strategically located in the Marlborough Sounds and commutable from Blenheim. Reporting to the General Manager Processing, you will be part of the broader Processing Team, working with other Site and functional managers to ensure a consistent best practice approach is adopted and maintained across the business. Specifically, your responsibilities include:

  • Operational management of a high volume 24/5 processing facility producing RTE product.
  • Leadership of 200+ staff. Your focus is on engagement and empowerment, building team capability through the attraction, retention and development of high performing people.
  • Commercial management – budget management, efficiency / cost improvement and reporting.
  • Strategic planning and direction.
  • Project management – in conjunction with engineering, provide direction / leadership regarding plant upgrades / improvement.

Skills and attributes

The successful applicant will…

  • Have outstanding people leadership skills and experience in partnering with a leadership team.
  • Be grounded in management and ideally have experience working in larger organisations where operational best practice has been a way of life.
  • Have a background from within the food processing sector. Experience working with chilled / frozen / perishables / seafood would be highly beneficial. Quality is your mantra.
  • Be able to see the bigger picture, communicate the company vision and achieve buy-in from all parties. Be a great mentor and coach.
  • Have a hands-on approach, operational insight, analytical ability and courage to challenge the status quo.
  • Knowledge and experience in Lean Manufacturing and change management.
  • Ideally hold a relevant tertiary qualification: Business, Engineering, Technology
